The Body Shop, which was the first cosmetics company to campaign against animal testing in cosmetics in 1989, announced plans for its entire product formulations portfolio to be certified by The Vegan Society, and carry its Vegan Trademark, by the end of 2023.
The Vegan Society takes a thorough approach to certification, checking every supplier and manufacturer of raw materials, which for The Body Shop means over 3,700 raw materials. Currently 60% of The Body Shop’s products are vegan.
The company also announced that it will be launching refill stations across 500 stores around the world this year, with 300 more stores to be added to the rollout in 2022. The Body Shop will also extend its Return, Recycle and Repeat in-store recycling program across 800 stores, in 14 markets, by the end of 2021.
“Going 100% vegan is a natural next step for us, and vegan beauty is a critical next step in our sustainability and environmental endeavors,” said Lionel Thoreau, Global Brand Director of The Body Shop. “This, along with our global refill and in-store recycling programs makes The Body Shop a destination for ethically-minded customers.”
“Body Shop’s ambition to achieve 100% Vegan Trademark certification across their substantial portfolio of formulations demonstrates their solid commitment to deliver the very best in efficacious and planet-loving products,” said Chantelle Adkins, Director of Business Development at The Vegan Society.
